New Orleans is the best place in Louisiana to teach photo classes. I held an intermediate photography lighting workshop in downtown New Orleans and in the French Quarter for advanced amateur photographers. We had a high school senior model, a bride and an engaged young couple posing on St. Charles Ave., on Canal Street, Royal Street, and on Pirate’s Alley next to St. Louis Cathedral. Using mainly daylight and diffused strobe light. I also taught the class how to capture movement without using a tripod to pan the camera with the moving subject. This technique, simply known as “panning”, makes the subject appear to be stationary while the background seems to be moving. A bright red trolly passed by as the subject was briskly walking by.
