Ashlyn is a force of nature that was born for the stage. When I had the privilege of talking with Ashlyn last week, the bubbly dancer told me that she had just gotten back from Los Angeles where she had spent the weekend dancing non-stop. She said that she loved every minute of it. She is thirteen years old and is extremely dynamic in front of the camera and on the dance floor. Ashlyn studies dance at Main Street Dance in Hammond where she raves about her dance instructor, Beth Fagan. Beth is a unique dance instructor because her vision is to train the whole dancer. She focuses on technique, but with an emphasis on the spiritual aspect of dance, as well as teaching the dancers on how to work as a unit.
Born and raised in Baton Rouge, Ashlyn is in the 7th grade at The Dunham School. Not only is she dedicated to her dance, she also works hard on her academics. She wakes up every day at 6:00am and stretches her feet and does a few exercises. Then she eats breakfast and heads off to school until 3:00pm. While she is in her car on her way to dance in Hammond she works on her homework. Dance class is from 4:00 -9:00 or 10:00pm, and then she wakes up and does it all over again. Her schedule is rigorous, but Ashlyn says she would not have it any other way. She also dances on most weekends, either in competitions or taking classes for further training. On her “off” days she works out and works on her dance numbers. Her dedication is unmatched. On average she dances 20 hours a week.
When I asked Ashlyn about her college goals, she said she would like to attend Marymount Manhatten College for Dance in New York. With the amount of dedication that she is putting into her passion for dance, she should have no problem continuing her path after high school and one day end up on Broadway, which is her overall life dream.
Ashlyn’s favorite musical film is The Greatest Showman, she loves the storyline and all the singing and dancing. One of Ashlyn’s dance instructors actually landed a part in it!
Ashlyn loves to travel and she especially loves her gray cat named Bunni, because he always listens and is the perfect companion.
When I asked Ashlyn if there was anything else she would like to leave with us, she said, “I do have a quote that I made up”…..
“Be a ruby in a room full of diamonds.” and I thought this couldn’t be more perfect, this young girl really gets it.
She is beautiful inside and out, and is able to see all the beauty around her. She will go far in life with this attitude. We wish her the best and we can’t wait to work with her again.
