India, a former bride whose wedding I’d photographed in Baton Rouge at White Oak Plantation in May 2006, approached me with a bright idea of taking wedding portraits in her old dress with her three boys around her in a field. Instead of a typical trash the dress session, this one seemed relevant since she can represent a former bride and now a mom in the same shot. I jumped at the opportunity to create art.
We drove down River Road to some rural setting and it just so happened to be extremely windy, sunny and cold – three things that can really put a dampener on any outdoor session. While the post wedding bridal shoot turned out much differently than expected, I am blown away with the results nevertheless. India, being a model, pulled it off with flying colors. We photographed in some epic late afternoon lighting which spilled into the lens creating beautiful lens flare.
Perhaps we’ve started a new trend for those artisic brides looking for a useful way to do a wedding-like photography session in the wedding dress while not trashing the dress. This session is a Christmas gift and surprise to her husband who has been working out of state for a few months.
