Megan and Brandon’s wedding in March of 2011 was held at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church in Baton Rouge, LA. What a gorgeous day it was for a spring wedding! So many personalized touches went into their big day; they truly made it their own. From Megan’s bouquet encased in a sheath of fabric from her mother’s wedding gown, to their Parent’s wedding portraits framed on the tables at the reception, which was held at Louisiana Old State Capitol. Amongst their guests was the famous stuffed animal Parrot who has become a tradition between their friends. Too fun! They had a blast on their wedding day! This wedding was shot the day before Aaron Hogan, Eye Wander Photo’s owner/president, fell from the second story of a building just around the corner from where this wedding was held. What a day! Destination wedding photography is one of the many perks of my business. Going to Jamaica to photograph a gorgeous bride like Rachael is icing on the cake. Baton Rouge natives Rachael and Anthony Giamanco married in one of Jamaica’s adult-only all-inclusive resorts Couples Swept Away Negril (Negril, Jamaica). One day we ventured off property and explored the Roaring River Park where Roaring River runs underground into a vast series of caves. What started as a beautiful outdoor setting for a wedding at LSU’s Rural Life Museum in Baton Rouge ended rocking reception fit for a king…a rock star king. Kristen & Brenan Wells of Baton Rouge tied the knot at Rural Life which was such an epic location for an October afternoon ceremony. (October is our most heavily booked wedding month and for good reason).

The wedding party consisted of Kristen and Brenan’s best rock star buddies, and the evening was filled with love, charisma, jello shots, a pole dance on the LSU party bus, a super fun choreographed first dance, and let’s not forget man love…lots and lots of it. The reception was held at Elegant Affairs in Prairieville, LA.

Nottoway Plantation wedding photography | Chrissy & Dan | Aug. 7, 2010

There is hardly a more serene location for a wedding in South Louisiana than Nottoway Plantation, the largest plantation in the South and one of Louisiana’s premier locations for weddings. Chrissy and Dan had their extremely classy wedding on the front lawn of the White Castle, LA plantation on August 7, 2010. Following the ceremony I chased the fading light into the edge of the sugar cane field and took some photos of the newlywed couple that will go down into my “Nottoway favorites” folder. The night ended with an epic Second Line out onto the lawn of the plantation. Such a fun wedding party, mostly from Florida.

Rosemary Beach Florida wedding photography | Shelley & Don 3.27.10

Having just returned from Santa Monica, CA doing an engagement session, I immediately left for Rosemary Beach, FL to photograph Shelley and Don’s destination wedding in Rosemary Beach, FL over the March 26-28 weekend. Shelley and Don are both residents of Baton Rouge, LA but they fell in love with the quaint community near Destin, FL. I’d never been to Rosemary Beach prior to the wedding but now I have good reason to return. It’s basically set up like a movie set complete with people strolling in the park with their dogs and tossing balls to one another.

The coverage began with a rehearsal dinner Friday night at Tuscany Italian Bistro Destin, FL. 36178 Emerald Coast Pkwy Destin, FL 32541. The food was AWESOME! But even better was the company and the stories Shelley and Don’s closest friends and family shared about them. There were tears, laughter, and more tears. Can I just say that I absolutely LOVE photographing rehearsal dinners?!!

The wedding was held on Saturday, March 27, 2010 at Rosemary Beach’s beautiful chapel-like Town Hall building near the Western Green. The reception was on the Western Green. Of course the lighting was perfect for the 4pm ceremony. I adore late afternoon lighting and it only got better after the ceremony. The reception was held under tents and at one point just around sunset I asked the couple if I could make some portraits of them alone on the beach. They were totally excited about it and we milked the light until there was no more.

Video was provided by CF Weddings and a preview of the wedding video will be online shortly and will be linked to this blog posting. It’s gonna rock so be on the lookout for that within a week.

Nottoway Plantation wedding photography | Mock Wedding of Libby & Drew 10.19.09

This is a very unique wedding of two very fantastic, energetic and loving people, Libby and Drew, on October 19, 2009. We had the perfect backdrop for a wedding at the largest plantation in the South, Nottoway Plantation in White Castle, LA. We had all the normal elements of a wedding but one thing set this wedding apart from all others–it was a fake wedding at Nottoway.

It all started with a desire to show off Nottoway Plantation, the largest Southern United States Plantation, and their brand new renovations. I have always been drawn to the location because of it’s gorgeous one-of-a-kind castle-like home and it’s carefully landscaped grounds. When Lexi De Brock, the wedding coordinator of Nottoway, met me we began talking about a way to promote the place to future brides. We decided a mock wedding in which we chose all the vendors would be the best method to promote Nottoway in the right light.

As with any wedding (even if it is a mock wedding), I first needed a bride and groom, so I chose Libby and Drew Murrell for their uncanny ability to be super natural and fun in front of the camera. I shot their wedding video at Houmas House Plantation so because I never got to photograph them, here was my chance. I teamed up with Baton Rouge florist Kali Soulier of Trinity Flowers, LLC to help organize the vendors, people and the “look” of our wedding. Kali did an immaculate job with the flowers and gave me a white flower petal aisle for the bride to walk down. Talk about beautiful! She created wonderful white and ivory flowers arrangements throughout the ceremony site including many pomanders for each of the 10 hooks that were positioned next to each row of chairs. She also hung white lantern globes from our two large live oak trees, and finally, she provided the programs that were hung on the backs of the chairs. Limousine service was provided by Professional Limousine Service, Inc., the cake provided by Fairy Dust Cakes, hair and makeup provided by Tina Rodosta of Bridal Beauty Consulting, tuxes provided by Squires Formal Wear in Baton Rouge, and bridesmaid dresses provided by Bridal Boutique. Kelsey from Something Borrowed provided the beautiful gold table linens for the reception and the ceremony chair sashes. I photographed and Contrast Films filmed the wedding in HD using 5D Mark II DSLR/video cameras for ultimate quality.

We spent two months planning this day and in the end, we had a grand event with everything from a bridal luncheon to outdoor ceremony with a flower-lined aisle (I always love weddings with flower aisles) and plenty of time to photograph the couple. We also had a small reception complete with dancing. Libby’s dad even played piano for Libby while her mother sang beautifully.

Lexi and Nottoway’s entire staff was a pleasure to work with and if and when you have your wedding there, you’ll be greeted with a warm and friendly smile from them. Lexi is so great with the details! Thanks Lexi!
