He and his girlfriend, Stacy, both from Loveland, CO, took a tour of Oak Alley’s grounds along with the mansion, and then at the end of the tour, they walked towards the levee. The plan was for him to drop to one knee asking Stacy for her hand in marriage as they walked back towards the mansion. I had made an “x” on the path in black tape to mark where the proposal was to take place.

Everything worked perfectly and Stacy had no clue I was there to document her. She even saw me a couple times with my assistant, but I made it seem like I was there photographing my assistant in front of the mansion. After the proposal and the tears of extreme joy, I took photos of the newly engaged couple around the property for half an hour enjoying some of the best light Louisiana has to offer in the late afternoon of early April.

The last couple photos are of the ring and yes, that’s a blue sapphire underneath the diamond…so unique! Way to go Erik!

I always take detours when doing engagement photos, trying to mix up the locations I choose. Sometimes I base the locations on the couple’s clothing, other times it’s based on their personalities. This session I chose locations for both reasons. Enjoy the beautiful sky we had that day in January at the levee. It’s fun to use the gross river as a backdrop especially at sunset when the gross natural colors are masked by the iridescent sky. Please comment on the post at bottom if you enjoy the photos.

When we finally met in person after I returned we began our in-person relationship with a very upbeat note and I knew then we’d be friends well beyond my duties as wedding, bridal and engagement photographer.

The engagement session took place at Cinclare’s Sugar Mill as well as Downtown Baton Rouge. If you have studied up on my work you may know my obsession with Cinclare’s due to its overall dilapidation. I thrive in quiet abandoned places. Sometimes it may be dangerous shot photograph in these types of places, but with my recent accident I was in, I will be much more careful in these locations. Cinclare’s is closing down soon it appears so this is probably one of the last sessions I’ll have had the opportunity to photograph there.

Let’s follow Michael and Lacey through their engagement session as they begin at Cinclare’s and end up at the Mississippi River at sunset. Enjoy their HD slideshow at the very bottom of this post.

We went through Jackson Square, found gorgeous backlight, water pouring from a balcony, and amazingly rich color. Alicia’s sultry looks made for some nice eye candy as she worked the camera. Cory didn't even feel as if the hat fit his "look" but you certainly can't tell from the photos. He's such a natural. He never could get the toss right.

One of my favorites! I enjoy seeing my clients lay down in monkey grass. They have so much trust in the end result which is BALLER!
