Because so many of our own family and friends have been touched in some way by this disease, we wanted to spend time getting to know those people in our community in a creative light. We invite you to participate in our new Fall series called Capturing Cancer.

We are interested in local stories of survival, courage and the battle of ALL types of cancer. If you, or anyone you know, has beaten cancer or who is currently going through it and would like to tell your story (the good, the bad, or the ugly), we would like to hear from you. These stories can be first hand accounts, family perspectives or even stories of inspiration, advice and support to others.

We are going to collect stories via email through October 31 and feature several on our blog over the next few months. Those selected will receive a complimentary in-studio photo shoot* (with family and support network or alone) to accompany their story which will showcase true beauty inside and out – capturing all aspects of cancer.

We want to create art, but most importantly, we want to create a place where people can go for support and comfort.

*Please email all stories and inquiries to Lauren@eyewanderphoto.com through October 31. If your story is selected for our blog, we will contact you to schedule and discuss your photo shoot.

*shoots will be scheduled on weekdays between November 1 – December 18

*please keep stories to 1500 words or less

Feel free to pass this to as many people as you wish. We look forward to hearing from you and getting to know real people in our community from a different perspective!

Thank you from all of us at Eye Wander Photo.

As the cover photographer for the East Baton Rouge Council On Aging’s monthly magazine/newsletter Platinum Record, I have been wanting to serve them through my profession as a photographer in a meaningful way. Once I heard about the Help-Portrait movement, I immediately thought of Baton Rouge’s often overlooked senior citizen community. The Platinum Record‘s editor Jeremy Theriot helped me organize an event to provide free portrait photography to 40 seniors and their families on Dec. 12.

Do you know of a senior citizen who would like a family portrait this holiday season? I will be teaming up with another local Baton Rouge portrait photographer and a makeup/hair artist at the Cortana Mall EBRCOA senior activity center Dec. 12, 2009 photographing 40 families who win our free portrait session giveaway. Interested individuals can sign up for a chance to win the session at any of the many EBRCOA senior activity centers around town. Go to the EBRCOA’s website for info on how to contact the different senior centers.

I am looking for volunteers for the Dec. 12 event from 11am-6pm. If you are interested in helping out at the event in anyway (keeping the seniors company, serving them food, answering questions, helping to setup/tear down, etc.) contact me via email here: aaronhogan@eyewanderphoto.com
