October brings a serious topic to our attention – Breast Cancer Awareness. Because so many of our own family and friends have been touched in some way by this disease, we wanted to spend time getting to know those people in our community in a creative light. We invite you to participate in our new Fall series called Capturing Cancer.

We are interested in local stories of survival, courage and the battle of ALL types of cancer. If you, or anyone you know, has beaten cancer or who is currently going through it and would like to tell your story (the good, the bad, or the ugly), we would like to hear from you. These stories can be first hand accounts, family perspectives or even stories of inspiration, advice and support to others.

We are going to collect stories via email through October 31 and feature several on our blog over the next few months. Those selected will receive a complimentary in-studio photo shoot* (with family and support network or alone) to accompany their story which will showcase true beauty inside and out – capturing all aspects of cancer.

We want to create art, but most importantly, we want to create a place where people can go for support and comfort.

*Please email all stories and inquiries to Lauren@eyewanderphoto.com through October 31. If your story is selected for our blog, we will contact you to schedule and discuss your photo shoot.

*shoots will be scheduled on weekdays between November 1 – December 18

*please keep stories to 1500 words or less

Baton Rouge newborn photography | Harrison newborn

Newborns are among my favorite subjects. When the newborn is 4-12 days old, I like them best. Sleeping. So long as they’re well fed and the temperature is warm enough, you can pretty much photograph them in thousands of ways, in hidden places, within found objects, outdoors in the wild, cuddling, cooing, ok you get the point.

Meet Harrison, 11 days old. He was pretty easy going and relaxed the first half of the session, then he decided to get a little fussy towards the end. But I managed to capture some fun stuff, ending with my favorite, red wagon shot in the mini Radio Flyer intended for dolls. Riley, big sister of Harrison, got in a few shots. She loved playing with the old magnifying glass as well as walking in her mom’s running shoes. I hope you enjoy this fun family as much as I did. Feel free to leave your comments below.

Baton Rouge newborn photography | Emma Catherine 10 days

I love the opportunity to take a break from weddings (though I truly love them) and focus on the little things in life…those extremely precious and delicate little ones. I photographed Emma Catherine, daughter of Kelli and Rayford Conerly whose wedding I photographed May 2010, at 10 days old at her house. Kelli and I spend a few hours letting her do what she does best–sleep.

When I first met new parents Chasity and Michael Graff it was to photograph their Baton Rouge wedding at Lake House in October 2009. Now, just over one year after they married, they had their firstborn son Nathan Graff. An adorable munchkin (yep, I just said that), Nathan arrived at the studio session wide awake. I normally like to photograph newborns while they’re sleeping in order to capture their precious tranquil facial features. However, Nathan was too alert for that. Instead, we captured a range of facial expressions showing his wide-eyed looks.
I loved using the ring flash at the end in the red chair to give the images a completely “exposed” and almost scientific look with the direct flash. I hope to continue to document Nathan’s growth over the next year.

The following entry was written by the mother of one of my favorite children I’ve ever photographed. I invited Kathryn Spano, mother of Isabella (age 3) to write for me about her experience as one of my clients. Here’s her story.

To find beauty in places that you would never dream of as a place of beauty is nothing short of talent. In my eyes in Baton Rouge, you really have to really search for it. When we were introduced to Aaron we felt he was the perfect child photographer for our Isabella.

The whole process of our family photography shoot was really impressive. Of course, Aaron had his ideas already, but he allowed us to show him little things in our home, inside and out that were special to us, things we would want to remember. He then proceeded to picking out outfits to go with different shoots and I knew we had chosen the right child photographer! The day of the shoot came, and he makes it such a relaxed atmosphere, that we are truly having fun……Then the wait to see the photos themselves….

As soon as the slide show started, I instantly saw how Aaron how captured all the little things that were so dear to our heart. And oh my, when OPED came across the screen, I couldn’t stop the tears from falling. I was overwhelmed, but in a content way. I had to explain that when she was learning her ABC’s, she referred to them as OPED’s and only four weeks later she isn’t doing that anymore. She simply refers to them as her ABC’s. For a mom or any parent, you don’t want to forget those little things that would make you smile when you were having a hard day. I cannot say enough how amazed I am that he captured our little girl’s special smile and her melancholy look and the love she has for her dog Wrigley, known to her as her little sister.
I am honored to have Aaron as our child photographer and I know we will keep him busy for many years to come. Now…Let me know what you think!

We welcome baby Caroline into the world and celebrate her birth with a newborn portrait session! Aimee and Cody Frederick’s first newborn Caroline was breathtakingly gorgeous. I photographed her in the Frederick’s Sugarland, TX home using their front room and backyard and had an absolute blast. The Fredericks are extremely creative and openminded and therefore I felt so free to try things. Enjoy the slideshow of my favorite photos below.

I’m in love working with children who know how to be natural in front of the camera. None of this “cheese” business necessary. Children photography should be pure and unadulterated. I adore glimpsing into their naive make-believe worlds. In this case, it was beautiful girls in white dresses rolling around in the grass and making funny faces for the camera. I prefer photographing children outdoors using only natural light with a silver reflector as opposed to studio environments. This keeps everything natural as possible. Ellie and Annie, 3 and 2 years old respectively, gave me an hour of their time late one afternoon in July in their Baton Rouge midcity backyard. Their mom Genny joined in a few of the shots. This is one of my favorite portrait sessions from the past few years. It’s funny how much I love photographing the Prosser Family. First it was Mary and Erik’s wedding on April 4, 2009 at St. Louis Cathedral in New Orleans, one of the coolest most timeless weddings I’ve ever photographed. I hope I get a chance to photograph Mary’s first born one day. Enjoy the slideshow and as always, please feel free to leave comments! I welcome and greatly desire your feedback.
